FC Utrecht-PSV 1-1
2012-01-22 18:00:00FC Utrecht won one point in the home match against PSV last Sunday. Lilipaly scored the opening goal after half-time. Five minutes later the players from Eindhoven made the equalizer via Toivonen in stadium Galgenwaard.
FC Utrecht started enthusiastically with the first match after the winter break against number 2 in the competition and put pressure from the start. As the first half progressed both teams were pretty much in balance, the pace was low. PSV took some more initiative. Just a few threatening moments appeared in front of the two goals. Mertens intercepted the ball in the 13th minute but the shot went just narrowly beside.
Only a few minutes later Duplan’s effort lacked direction and went high over PSV’s goal. Some time later Matavz just could not reach Labyad’s assist. At the other side Gerndt made a nice cross which resulted in a corner only. Any outplayed opportunities failed.
“It was difficult to break through FC Utrecht’s wall”, PSV-coach Fred Rutten said.”We worked on the organisation in Portugal, because we had too many countergoals in the first half of the competition”, Jan Wouters explained.
Ten minutes after half-time Oar made his appearance at the side line. The Australian substituted Boldewijn. PSV increased the pace and became stronger in the second half, although real chances did not appear yet. FC Utrecht did not get in trouble, they even took the lead in the 66th minute. A mistake in the defence preceded. Lilipaly took advantage in the second instance. It was his first goal.
The joy did not last long. PSV went after the equalizer and only five minutes after the opening goal, they made the equalizer. A corner ended in Toivonen’s feet and he aimed the ball in the corner. FC Utrecht escaped from the second countergoal in a miraculous way in the 80th minute. Just before the line the ball was cleared. Goalkeeper Fernández saved twice.
“We are satisfied with the exercise period in Portugal and are happy with te point we have won today”, Jan Wouters stated.
