Ex-footballer and former commercial manager of FC Twente Jan van Halst is to help FC Utrecht strengthen its commercial activities. He will do so through the German sports marketing agency Sportfive, with which FC Utrecht will work closely as from 1 February. Wilco van Schaik, FC Utrecht's managing director, announced the news at the New Year reception on Tuesday.
Van Schaik also revealed a number of other important appointments to strengthen and further professionalise the club's organisation. Roland Jurriëns will join the club as PR, marketing and communications manager on 1 February. He has worked in a similar position for Utrecht municipality in recent years. On the same date, Michel Baas will join the club as financial manager. He has many years' experience in the insurance and claims assessment industry.
Nijholt loaned to Almere City FC

Gianluca Nijholt will play for Almere City FC during the second half of the season. The Jupiler League club will hire the FC Utrecht midfielder from now until the end of the competition. The Almere team is trained by Dick de Boer and is currently ninth in the second tier. Nijholt has a contract with FC Utrecht until 2013. FC Utrecht wishes Gianluca the very best playing for Almere City FC in the remainder of the season.
FC Köln and FC Zürich to play FC Utrecht in Portugal

FC Utrecht will face FC Köln and FC Zürich during the club's training camp in Portugal next week. Both matches will be played at Amendoeira Sports Club in Alcantarillha, located between Portimão and Albufeira.
FC Utrecht will leave for the six-day training camp on the Algarve on Monday 9 January. FC Köln will be the first opponent, with the game kicking off at 15.30 on Wednesday afternoon, 11 January. At 1 o'clock on Saturday afternoon, 14 January, FC Utrecht will play a friendly against FC Zürich. The two opponents play in the highest tier in Germany and Switzerland respectively.
Lensky leaves FC Utrecht

Jacob Lensky returned to Canada for good last Thursday to rebuild his life following his lengthy struggle with alcohol problems. The 23-year-old Canadian with a Czech passport was under contract with FC Utrecht until the end of the current season. The contract has been dissolved with effect from 1 January 2012. FC Utrecht wishes Jacob the very best for the future and thanks him for his dedication during his playing career at FC Utrecht.
