FC Utrecht-Feyenoord 2-2
2011-12-11 15:43:58Jan Wouters was satisfied with the 2-2 in the home match against Feyenoord last Sunday, especially in the circumstances. Wouters had had to add Asare to the long list of absent players. Wouters’ colleague Ronald Koeman complimented the tattered FC Utrecht for the resilience it showed. “Although we let it happen’, he stated. ”If you knock down the opponent, you have to take care that he does not stand up again.”
In the initial stage the match went the way Koeman hoped for. After only 1 ½ minutes Guidetti had all the space to shoot in the 0-1. FC Utrecht had to play catch-up again. Feyenoord showed their confidence and put pressure on after the opening goal. It seemed that FC Utrecht had to face a harsh afternoon again. In the twelfth minute Van Dijk had to make a good save on Schaken’s sizzler.
Early in the match Wouters decided change his defence. Nilsson was substituted for the nineteen year old Mike van der Hoorn, who took the central position in the back next to Vorstermans. “Marcus became too uncertain”, Wouters said. “Mike brought back the peace in the team and he dared to build up.” Van der Hoorn made a good impression. He was announced as “Man of the Match”.
FC Utrecht recoveredand came back into the match. Feyenoord did not push through and the longer the half lasted the nearer FC Utrecht came to Feyenoord’s goal. After just over half an hour FC Utrecht made the equalizer. Bovenberg was very decisive with his head after a free kick. Less than a minute later Duplan had a great opportunity to make the 2-1, but he bounced against goalkeeper Mulder.
It seemed that the match would turn around. Wouters’ team refound their faith and the crowd got behind their team because they felt that the opportunities were coming. This resulted in some more threatening moments at Feyenoord’s goal.
After half time Feyenoord was the first team that became dangerous. After a quick counter Cabral went through to Van Dijk on his own but Feyenoord’s striker mishit the ball. His effort went just wide of the goal. Two minutes later Duplan reacted alertly at the other end. He pushed the ball into the net out of a scrimmage in front of the goal: 2-1. FC Utrecht kept control, but this time Feyenoord struck. Cabral scored via Van Dijk.
Fifteen minutes after Utrecht took the lead both teams were in balance again. Feyenoord came close to a third goal a few times in particular via Guidetti. In the extra time Duplan had the opportunity to decide the match in favour of FC Utrecht. The home team had to play the last few minutes with ten players after Bulthuis was shown a second yellow card.
