Romanian TV offers flag
2011-11-30 19:00:00The Romanian TV station Pro TV visited FC Utrecht and presented a national flag with the signatures on it of the Romanian international players.
Reporter Alexandra Tanasescu of the Romanian TV station Pro TV was in Utrecht on Wednesday to do a commentary that will be broadcast today, 1 December, Romania's National Holiday. This day’s theme will largely be focused on Mihai Nesu.
Alexandra and her crew had brought a national flag of Romania with signatures on it of the players of the Romanian national team. This flag is intended for Mihai’s own foundation, the Mihai Nesu Foundation, that raises money for partners in misfortune of Mihai in Romania. Over there the facilities for people who have a disability because of an accident, are inferior to those in the Netherlands. On behalf of Mihai, Foeke Booy, technical director of FC Utrecht, received the flag.
“The presentation of this flag was done on the initiative of George Ogararu, a friend of Mihai’s, who has played football with Ajax and who now plays with FC Sion in Switzerland”, said Alexandra Tanasescu. She said that Mihai is still very popular in Romania. “They certainly have not forgotten him, on the contrary”, said the reporter. “When his previous club Steaua Bucharest is not doing so well in a match, the supporters chant Mihai’s name. And that is always very inspiring for Steaua’s players.”
Along with the TV crew who did the interviews with Foeke Booy and trainer Jan Wouters and paid a visit to the FC Utrecht Museum, there were also four Steaua Bucharest supporters. These supporters were in the neighbourhood, because today Steaua will be playing in the Europa League against Schalke 04 in the German town of Gelsenkirchen. At the Bunnik Side the Romanians put up a flag with Mihai’s name on it and all four of them chanted his name in the empty stadium.
