Floored in Enschede
2010-08-29 16:33:41A battered FC Utrecht stood up to FC Twente’s rush for just over an hour last Sunday. At the moment the first goal was made, more FC Twente’s goals followed quickly, so FC Utrecht was defeated by 4-0 in Enschede.
Three days after the European match against Celtic, FC Utrecht knew some personnel problems. Ton du Chatinier missed a few solid players. Schut and Mertens because of suspensions and Asare and Mulenga because of injuries.
Compared to last Thursday the line up had three alterations. Maquire and Keller stood in the team at the kick off. Tommy Oar substituted Mertens and started for the first time in the line up. Leon de Kogel took place on the bench for the first time.
From the fifteenth minute on FC Twente exerted pressure and this resulted within a few minutes in three chances. De Jong’s effort ended on the post. Two minutes later Chadli could shoot. This time Vorm came to the rescue. Vorm also reacted alertly at the moment a cross ended for Janko’s feet via Lensky’s back.
It was difficult for FC Utrecht to get away from the pressure. The only danger from FC Utrecht in the first half came from an action by Duplan who penetrated into the penalty area. Wisgerhof had to make a foul to stop the Frenchman. Referee Liesveld did not see a penalty in it.
FC Twente remained dominate, but missed the belief in a completion during the first half. Vorm did not have to make great saves. The goalie turned away a sizzler made by Chadli during the first half, could easily catch Janko’s free header and just a few minutes later Vorm saw Janko shooting the ball over the goal from a favorable position.
Just before half time Du Chatinier was forced to make another change, because Keller got injured (also at his hamstring). Nijholt subtituted Keller and Silberbauer moved from the midfield to the defence. At the start of the second half Oar was substituted by Danso.
The home playing team put up the speed in the second half even more, being on the hunt for the opening goal. The question was how long FC Utrecht was able to resist the pressure without receiving a score in reply.
In the 64th minute Vorm did not have a chance. Janko could unhindered put his head against Janssens’ assist. After this the champion in power enlarged the lead quickly. Eight minutes later Janko again headed in a cross made by Janssen and via two goals made by De Jong it was 4-0.
We already missed a lot of players and saw Keller drop out also. With so many changes it is difficult, said Du Chatiner. “FC Twente was good and it was a justified defeat against them.’We hope that the injured players will be there again against FC Groningen.
