FC Utrecht easily beat Willem II
2010-08-22 16:20:00Three days after the European match match against Celtic, FC Utrecht did not have to make a supreme effort for the second victory in a row in stadium Galgenwaard. After just over half an hour playing time the final score 3-0 stood was already on the scoreboard.
Willem II, who are still without any points after two matches, had the chance to take the lead after twenty minutes. Schut made a mistake against Demouge. However, the players from Tilburg did not take advantage of this opportunity. Lasnik took a promising run but aimed far over the goal from eleven meter. Within a minute a penalty was given on the other side. Now it was Pereira who held Asare. Van Wolfswinkel stayed calm and shot the ball near past Willem II’s goalkeeper Mäenpää.
“Mentally, we were not able to handle this disappointment”, Willem II coach Gert Heerkes said looking back on the match.
FC Utrecht, who were playing without the injured Mulenga, had complete control over the match right away. Seven minutes after the opening goal, the home playing team enlarged their lead, almost from the middle line Silberbauer started a rush to the goal via four Willem II players. His action was stopped by Mäenpää. In second stage Mertens reached the ball before the goalkeeper and scored.
After just over half an hour the match was already decided. Mertens put the ball onVan Wolfswinkel’s head form the right side and Willem II’s goalkeeper could do nothing more than to look how the ball disappeared in the left upper corner. Van Wolfswinkel made his fifth goal in three competition matches. FC Utrecht could have enlarged the lead further in this stage. Van Wolfswinkel had an opportunity, after he took away the ball from Van der Heijden, but his effort ended in the side net.
In the second half Willem II’s coach Gert Heerkens brought in two fresh players in an attempt to try to draw level. After half time FC Utrecht was not keen anymore and Willem II did not have the power to cause any problems in FC Utrecht’s defence. The only effort came from a header made by Swinkels which went across.
Because Schut got his second yellow card of the afternoon, FC Utrecht had to play with ten players for more than thirty minutes. This majority in numbers did not last long. Willem II did not end with eleven players either. Demouge was shown a straight red card because of a serious foul against Wuytens.
“We knew that we could not lose any points today”, Ton du Chatinier said.”After the 1-0 it started to run smoothly and we scored three times in a short period. After half time we wanted to stay eager and score some more goals, but we did not succeed in this. No injuries occurred during this match and we can look forward to next Thursday.”
“When you have a jump of 3-0, you know that this should be enough for a victory”Man of the Match Michael Silberbauer analysed.”We are looking forward to the second match against Celtic. Thursday we have to be ready again.
